Tea can be found in nearly 80% of households. According to SPINS, over the last five years, hot tea sales have increased over 15%.1
TEA IS STEEPED IN HEALTH BENEFITS
Tea is the second most popular beverage worldwide, but, consumers aren’t reaching for breakfast blends of the past. Increasingly, shoppers are buying tea with a marketed benefit—which now makes up 40% of the natural tea category.2 Benefits such as immunity and cognitive support are in high demand, but skin health is an innovative newcomer.
Immunity Boost
Immunity and allergy health products represent the largest growth in the marketed benefit segment.2 Ingredients like echinacea, licorice, elderberry, and eucalyptus promote a healthy immune system response, soothe respiratory inflammation, and tend to seasonal allergies.3
Cognitive Boost
Stress, sleep, and relaxation are some of the most sought-after cognitive benefits. Chamomile and lavender are among classic ingredients used for brain function but there are more beneficial herbs being discovered:
• Tulsi has a long history of reducing stress3
• Passionflower can calm and soothe the nervous system3 • Kanna is known for its mood-lifting benefits3
Beauty Boost
Even the herbal tea category has introduced products for skin care. Rose hip is high in Vitamin C and effective at fighting signs of aging because of its antioxidant properties. Restorative red clover improves tissue circulation which leads to detoxification—resulting in glowing skin.4
Don’t forget to stock ready-to-drink teas, especially for consumers seeking energy and detox benefits without the high sugar. RTD tea sales are expected to exceed $21.7 billion during the 2016-2024 time period.4
