 ’TIS THE SEASON FOR GIVING
The holiday season is a time when restaurants and retail stores take in the bulk of their revenue for the year. However, it’s also a time for giving, and establishments that include a charitable component in their business model see it pay dividends – in goodwill, in great reviews, repeat customers and customer recommendations.
Here are some ideas on how your business can give back:
• Partner with No Kid Hungry – A non-profit working to solve problems of hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world. Pick a day of the week during the holiday season and donate a percentage of your profits. Make sure to promote the effort with ads and signage.
• Community Kitchens – Work with your local community kitchen to donate unused food.
• Look for Ways to Go Green – Reduce waste, use eco-friendly cleaning products, encourage patrons to bring their
own reusable drink container, phase out plastic straws, plates and utensils.
• Teach – Go to local schools to educate kids about healthy eating and sustainability through fun, hands-on activities. • Volunteering Time – Allow your employees a certain amount of paid time off to work for a charitable cause.
• Community Night – On a traditionally slow night, partner with a local sports team. They will bus tables and donate their tips as a fundraiser for their club. You can chip in by donating a portion of the profits. This brings in both new and return customers on a typically slow night and builds a great relationship with your community.
