TASTY TURMERIC DRINKS WITH ADDED BENEFITS
Turmeric, the spice from the ginger family, gives curry its signature yellow color, and has lots of functional benefits. The polyphenol in curcumin is the key. It’s a powerful anti-inflammatory as well as a strong antioxidant.
Turmeric is a popular spice in Indian cooking, but it has a pungent, bitter flavor, so use it sparingly. Try adding it to beverages for extra zest, or include it in chutneys, pickles, mustards and relishes. Add a pinch to soups or melted butter to drizzle over veggies.
Here are some ideas:
• Golden Turmeric Latte: Lattes are the most popular way to include turmeric into your menu. Blend steamed milk with a spoonful of dried turmeric along with tea or coffee. Sweeten with simple syrup and serve hot.
• Turmeric-Mango Tonic: Give your turmeric drinks a boost with antioxidant-rich mangoes. Combine turmeric, mango and honey in a saucepan until heated. Transfer to a blender, add in frozen green tea ice cubes and combine.
• Turmeric and Apple Cider Vinegar Shot: Just as the name implies, this shot combines turmeric and apple cider vinegar for a fiery kick to boost gut health.
• Raspberry Turmeric Shake: This sweet and fruity shake is an easy way to sneak in turmeric for those opposed to the taste. Combine frozen raspberries, banana, coconut milk, turmeric and lemon juice in a blender until smooth.
• Beet, Blood Orange and Turmeric Juice: Juice beets, blood oranges, turmeric, lemon, ginger and carrots. Serve immediately. Bonus: beets are high in folate and vitamin C.
