 twisted traditions
The holiday season is steeped in indulgence. But today’s holidays are much different than your gramma’s. Families now include vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians, those who follow
a Keto diet or a Paleo diet, and who knows what else. How can you continue to offer delicious, hearty meals and desserts
and still satisfy everyone’s preferences? Try some of these options, or make up some new twisted traditions of your own.
Pies
Offer your customers their favorite holiday desserts that have a surprising twist.
• Apple Cheddar Pie: Traditional apple pie gets a twist with savory cheese in the crust. Shred sharp or white cheddar into the crust and bake along with your favorite apples. Serve with chunks of hard or melted cheese on top for extra cheesy goodness.
• Sweet Potato-Miso Pie: Sweet potatoes are paired with salty white miso and a crunchy sesame seed cookie crust to create this naturally gluten-free dessert.
• Chocolate & Cardamom Coconut Tart: Cardamom adds a new flavor to traditional coconut custard pie. Add pistachios and dark chocolate for a sweet topping.
• Vinegar Pie: The filling in this custard-style pie is surprisingly flavored using apple cider vinegar. The technique was popular in the pioneer days when fresh fruit was scarce. The flavor is subtle but be sure to use a high- quality vinegar for the best taste. Visit this website for the recipe: https:// www.marthastewart.com/939300/pioneer-vinegar-pie
