 Cruelty Free
Most people, whether they eat meat or not, care about the ethical treatment of animals.
63%
meat-buying consumers look for labels that tell how the animal was raised
The Global Animal Partnership (G.A.P.) is one of the largest animal welfare food labeling programs in North America.
G.A.P. considers three categories: Health and productivity, natural living, and emotional well-being.
The base certification standards require that the animals are antibiotic and growth- hormone free, have adequate living space and shelter from extreme weather.
At the highest level, livestock live continuously outside, physical alterations are not permitted, and animals live their entire life on the farm.
Many brands are already certified including Applegate Farms, Perky Jerky and FreeBird Chicken.
Other animal welfare certifications include:
• Leaping Bunny – the only internationally recognized certification organization
• Beauty Without Bunnies – PETA’s cruelty-free certification program
• Choose Cruelty Free – an independent, nonprofit based in Australia
