 Fair Trade Certified
Fair Trade certification ensures that farmers, workers and fishermen are treated and compensated fairly.
Industries like coffee, tea, bananas, chocolate and craftworkers are often Fair Trade Certified because those workers are the most vulnerable to predatory business practices.
Fair Trade creates relationships between sellers and workers that establish stable prices on goods and improves the workers’ quality of life.
For every Certified product sold, the producer earns additional money that goes into a Community Development Fund. From there, a committee of farmers or workers decides how to spend their funds. The money has helped fund health insurance programs, rebuild homes after natural disasters and build a daycare center.
Customers like to purchase from Fair Trade companies, with $1 billion in sales for 2018 on products carrying the Fair Trade logo.
Produce, meat and seafood can also be purchased through Fair Trade practices.
