 Certified USDA Organic
As the climate changes, there is increasing concern that we rely on too few crops. Two-thirds of crop production comes from just nine species: sugar cane, maize, rice, wheat, potatoes, soybeans, oil-palm fruit, sugar beet and cassava.
If just one of the crops is threatened by drought, destroyed by pests or ruined by other climate-induced catastrophes, we don’t have any viable alternatives. It could create massive gaps in the food supply.
Biodiversity focuses on diversifying crop species to reduce the effects climate change could have on the supply chain.
Certified USDA Organic guidelines require that the supplier/farmer use techniques that promote biodiversity. It also bans monocropping and requires the use of organic seeds to support genetic diversity.
When you choose to use Certified Organic ingredients in your food, you’re also supporting biodiversity.
